Jerk chicken at "Court Cafe" in Foley Square , lower Manhattan -- Just go to the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge and walk one or two blocks uptown. Across from the two large, colonnaded courthouses is a non-descript, bus-your-own tray abomination with a steam table of various dishes kitty corner to a pizza and fried chicken grease-fest. Order the jerk chicken with rice and peas and tell the white-smocked dude to load extra sauce from the jerk chicken on the rice. This stuff is fiery, salty and delicious. Get extra beverages. dedicated service, and quality ingredients. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/losangeles/D40913.html
The Comeback - We hate to seem
like shills for HBO's Original Series, but Lisa Kudrow's
slightly surrealistic turn as a former A-list actress
being dragged kicking and screaming onto the D-list
strikes the most delicate balance between comedy and
tragedy since the seminal "Larry Sanders Show".
Check out her devoted personal hair-stylist Mickey for
the most over-the-top yet believable sycophant in years.

Scruffy Duffys No

Bamiyan Afghani Restaurant
nobody knows this place save a few Murray Hill residents
but this is some of the freshest and tastiest
food in NYC. Place is a bit of a shit-hole, but we endorse
it unequivocally. http://www.bamiyan.com/index.shtml
Jason Morans Same Mother
is one of the funkiest Jazz recordings since Jack Johnson.
The electric guitar of Marvin Sewell is a flat out revelation.
Please buy this record today.

Alexander Payne: Citizen Ruth,
Election, About Schmidt and Sideways. If there
is a better movie-maker in the U.S. today, we don't
know about that person.
http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0668247/
Wilco: The 2000s version of the 90s REM.
Unbelievable creative roll, 7 great albums in a row,
the first one a double: Being There, Summer Teeth, The
Mermaid Avenues 1 & 2, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and
A ghost is born. If anyone tells you they are
overrated, that person is an idiot.
http://www.wilcoweb.com/
Grant Hill: One of the most moral, likable guys
in the NBA, which is sort of like being the least offensive
guy on death row, but even if the league were filled
with Bishop Sheens, we may still have put him here
http://www.granthill.com/
Keen's Pub and Steakhouse: A NY
institution that flies beneath the radar. Zero fanfare
- just great food in midtown Manhattan for over 100
years and now the official Brown Brothers Cantina. Try
the prime rib hash, it is fine.
http://www.keenssteakhouse.com/
Oranjeboom Beer: Dutch. Need we say more?
http://www.ratebeer.com/beerimages/full_size/4967.jpg
The inbred idiots who voted for Bush, because as much
as we love REM and Springsteen as artists, we do not
want to hear them lobbying for political candidates.
By this stage in the game, those warhorses should keep
their integrity from being stained by descending into
the political muck. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=inbred&ei=UTF-8&fr=slv1-
Teenage Fanclub, "Songs from
Northern Britain" (1997). The great lost
pop album from the 1990s. This album should
have done the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync numbers.
It is nothing less than the most mature, introspective
pop record made.

Tupac Shakur, "Picture
Me Rollin'", "Hail Mary". Two of
the choicest cuts from the most prolific dead man this
side of Hendrix and Elvis.

"Wag the Dog" (1997). Examine
for the answer to the question: is Dustin
Hoffman a better actor than Robert DeNiro? Oh,
and also the best comedy, nay movie, of the 1990s.
Knopfler's score is brilliant. The movie may also
stop you from hating Denis Leary for a minute.

Live music: Fun Lovin Criminals.
Saw them once and experienced what a 1960s Grateful
Dead show must have been like.

Katz' Delicatessen (Houston Street, New York) Cleanliness?
No. Tastiness? Yes

If you still hate him, it's your problem.
http://baseball.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5406

that it fell off, it had its best season in 2004.
http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/
Entourage: because we wanted to hate it for the
Marky Mark connection but we can't. Go Turtle
and Ari. http://www.hbo.com/entourage/
Japonica (University Place, New York): still
cranking out large slabs of top-notch sushi long after
the buzz has died down. http://newyork.citysearch.com/review/7087322?order_by=recent
Nine Below Zero by Sonny boy Williamson.
And you thought that RZ invented this turn of phrase?
Last I heard he was heisting lyrics from the Japanese.

no one comes close.
